Huskies Fall to Lady Frogs

FORT WORTH – The HBU women's basketball team started the 2010-11 campaign with a 96-38 loss at #23 TCU Friday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Entering the first media timeout, the Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after TCU missed its first five shots, but the Lady Frogs went on a 9-0 run to lead 9-4 with 14:26 left in the first half.

Entering the second media timeout, the Lady Frogs increased their lead to 22-6. TCU's leading scorer from a season ago, Emily Carter, led the Lady Frogs with eight points, while Tia Jackson, Mele Leasau and Destini Texada each had two.

The two teams entered halftime with TCU leading 49-12. Carter led all scorers with 17 points, followed by both Starr Crawford and Delisa Gross with seven apiece. HBU was led by both Brittany Maxey and Leasau with four points each. The Lady Frogs hit six three-pointers and shot 35 percent from beyond the arc.

TCU started the second half on an 11-6 run as the teams entered the first media timeout of the second half with the Lady Frogs leading, 60-18.

Midway through the second half, TCU led HBU 66-23, as the Lady Frogs had four players in double-figures, led by Carter with 20. Texada led HBU with seven points and nine rebounds.

Texada finished one point shy of a double-double as she finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Jackson was second with eight points. TCU was led by Carter with 26 points. Helena Sverrisdottir finished with 13 points and Crawford was the lone Frog with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

HBU (0-1) will head to Kentucky to face Louisville on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 6 pm CST.
