HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team won its first conference match of the season in a big way as the Huskies defeated visiting Howard, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
Kristopher Tyrpak scored the only goal of the first half, on a breakaway in the 37th minute, assisted by Duke Ogega.
The Huskies broke it open in the second half, as Leonel Munoz started things off in the 51st minute, assisted by Lorne Cameron. Cameron sent a cross pass into the box and Munoz kicked it into the back of the net. John McDuffee made it 3-0 hosts in the 66th minute, assisted by Cameron.
Tyrpak scored his second and third goals in the 86th and 88th minute. Andrew Collins assisted on the fourth goal and Francisco Diaz assisted on the fifth.
HBU outshot the Bison, 22-5, including a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Chris Dodd started the match and earned the victory, playing in 74 minutes and making one save. Zach Harwerth played in the remaining 15 minutes and also made a save. Howard's Larry Turner made 10 saves.
HBU (4-7-1, 1-0-0 ASC) will host Longwood on Friday night, Oct. 29, at 7 pm.
