HBU LOSES TO ISLANDERS, 10-7

Taccolini become all-time home run leader at HBU

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The HBU baseball team took an early 4-0 lead and senior Andrew Taccolini became the program's all-time home run leader but the Huskies lost to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on a windy, overcast day at Chapman Field by a score of 10-7.

HBU jumped ahead in the third inning when Leo Delgado led off with a single and then scored on Taccolini's third homer in the last two games.  With his two-run shot, the senior outfielder became HBU's all-time leader in home runs with 29.

In the fourth inning, the Huskies manufactured two more runs thanks to a hit batter, a walk, a single, a fielder's choice, a wild pitch and a passed ball.  The Islanders got on the board in the fourth and the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.

Eric Schiro led off the sixth inning with a ground-rule double, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and then scored on a Johnathon Moore single to pull the Huskies' within one.  HBU was unable to hold off TAMUCC as the Islanders answered with two runs in the bottom half.

The Huskies again cut the lead to one in the seventh after Beau Warren and Robbie Buller both recorded hits to open the inning.  They came around to score thanks to a ground out and a Schiro single.  For the third time, HBU allowed the Islanders to answer in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on two hits and one Husky error.

Taccolini was 2-5 with a pair of runs batted in and one run scored.  In his last two games, the senior has moved to the top of both the all-time RBI and home run lists at HBU.  Moore finished the game 2-3 at the plate with one RBI and a pair of walks.  He has now hit safely in four consecutive games.

Shortstop Nick Homan extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single hit in five at bats while also drawing a walk.  Schiro, a senior, enjoyed his first multi-hit game of the season, collecting a single and a double in five at bats.

Zac Schiefen took the loss for HBU, lasting four innings and falling to 0-5.  The senior southpaw gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits while striking out two and walking one.

The Huskies finished the game with 10 hits and stranded 12 base-runners.  TAMUCC left six men on base and recorded 13 hits.

HBU falls to 2-18 on the season while the Islanders improve their record to 8-17.

The Huskies are scheduled to travel to Huntsville for a single game against Sam Houston State on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 pm at Don Sanders Stadium.
