Brady Buell was named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Tuesday.
 
Buell had nine punts for 458 yards in Thursday’s opener at New Mexico, setting a new HBU single-game record with a 50.9-yard average. The Traverse City, Michigan, native had four punts of more than 50 yards and four inside the 20. His second 59-yard punt of the day came at the end of the first quarter and bounced inside the one, before taking a sharp left turn out of bounds. The Huskies’ quickly forced a three-and-out to set up sophomore wide receiver Tyson Thompson’s 44-yard punt return for a touchdown. He also had a 49-yard punt in the fourth quarter that checked up a the two and was downed for a second time inside the UNM 5. Buell ranks third nationally in punting average through the first week of the season.
