Merrell led the Huskies to a victory at the Moe O'Brien Tournament, hosted by McNeese State. HBU shot combined scores of 280 and 284 to claim the title. Merrell won the individual title in a playoff. He tied for first in the two-day tournament, posting a 6-under par 66 on day one and a 1-under par 71 in the second round. Merrell defeated SFA's Mitchell McLeroy in the playoff. Merrell was named ASC Golfer of the Week for his efforts.
