Williamson is a member of several NCAA-related organizations and has served on several NCAA committees. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action.

He received both of his degrees from Louisiana Tech, earning a bachelor of science in accounting in 1985 and a Master of Business Administration in 1986.

Williamson's spouse, Debbie, is the Coordinator of Women's Basketball Officials for eight leagues including the Atlantic Coast Conference, American, Atlantic 10, Big East, Big South, Coastal, Ivy and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conferences.  The Williamsons have three children: Courtney, Mark and Nathan.
