Nick Whiting

Nick Whiting is in his second season as the head women’s soccer coach at HCU after being named head coach in April of 2024.

In his first season leading the program, the Huskies finished with a 5-9-5 overall record and a 3-4-3 mark in Southland Conference play, just missing out on the SLC Tournament. Alexa Huerta and Olivia Rossman earned all-conference honors for the 2024 season with both also earning a spot on the academic all-conference team.

Whiting joined the Huskies after two seasons as the associate head coach at Western Carolina, helping lead the Catamounts to both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2023. That season, WCU won the regular season outright with a 7-2 record, the program's first-ever outright SoCon title, and boasted a top 25 scoring offense and a top 25 scoring defense.

Whiting helped guide the Catamounts to a top 70 RPI in 2023, the highest in program history, and also coached the SoCon Player of the Year, Isabella DeMarco. Both seasons he was at WCU, the program ranked in the top 10 in Division I in team GPA.

Prior to his stint at WCU, Whiting spent six seasons at Southland Conference member McNeese and served as the program's associate head coach for four of those. In his final season with the Cowgirls, he helped guide McNeese to a 13-5-2 overall record with a 9-2-1 mark in SLC play. During his time in Lake Charles, he coached players to SLC Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and Defender of the Year honors.

Before his years at McNeese, Whiting coached one season as an assistant at Louisiana, reaching the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with an 8-10-2 record. Before that, he was the head coach at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. for three seasons, leading the Bobcats to a pair of Conference Carolinas regular season titles and a 29-23-4 record. He spent two seasons as an assistant at Lees-McRae before taking over the head job.

Whiting also spent a year as an assistant at Catawba College after a season as a graduate assistant at WCU in 2008. He graduated from the University of West Florida in 2007 with a bachelor of arts in communication arts/public relations and later earned an M.S. in health and human performance from McNeese in 2021.
