Archie Massen

Archie Massen is now in his fifth season as assistant coach at Houston Christian University.

At the side of Head Coach Ryan Pratt since coming to HCU from UTRGV prior to the 2021 season, Massen has helped the Huskies in their transition from the WAC into the inaugural season of the Ohio Valley Conference in 2023.

Massen was part of the UTRGV program from inception in 2015, first as a player, then graduate assistant and finally an assistant coach. During his time there, he helped the Vaqueros achieve its first ever Top 25 ranking as well as coaching 10 players that went on to play professionally, including two MLS draft picks in Kyle Edwards and Reshaun Walkes.

He has also played an integral part in developing over 30 all-conference selections and 50 academic all-conference honorees in his coaching career. He has been instrumental at both HCU and his time at UTRGV in developing relationships in the community and arranging opportunities for community service, while also continuing to coordinate the program’s soccer camps.

A native of Lincoln, England, Massen played for three years at UT-Brownsville before finishing his playing career at UTRGV. He earned All-America honors as well as reaching the NAIA national final as a junior at UTB.

Massen graduated from UTRGV with a degree in Science and Human Performance before earning a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
