Jaren Murphy is in his first season as director of operations for the HBU men’s basketball program. In his role as director of operations, Murphy is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball office while coordinating travel, practice times and video operations while also overseeing the program’s student managers and handling other assigned duties.

Prior to HBU, Murphy played two seasons of basketball at Texas College in Tyler, Texas. A native Houstonian, Murphy was a two-time academic all-american at Texas College while also earning Dean’s List honors. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas College in 2018 and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

He has been active with the All 4 Sports AAU program as a special assistant, helping with player development, recruiting prospective student-athletes, game plan development and academic development. He has had multiple players go on to play at all collegiate levels. While in school at HCC, Murphy worked with the sports program director as an assistant with duties ranging from budget and travel logistics to development of student service programs.

Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management at HBU.
