Tyler Schovanec

Tyler Schovanec is in his third season at HBU as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach.
 
Dreshawn Minnieweather rushed for 723 yards and seven touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns in only eight games in 2019. Senior kick returner Gamar Girdy Brito earned STATS FCS and Hero Sports All-America honors, was an All-Southland Conference First-Team selection and earned a STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week award. Junior punter Blake Patterson earned all-conference second-team honors and freshman kicker Gino Garcia set school records for scoring, field goals and extra points made and attempted in a single season, while twice earning Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
 
In 2018, Minnieweather set the school single-season record with five rushing touchdowns, while he and fellow running back LaDarius Dickens each scored six total touchdowns. Dickens earned Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors after returning three kickoffs for 186 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown, which is the longest play in HBU history.The Huskies also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and a fumble by the punter for a touchdown.
 
Prior to joining the Huskies’ staff, Schovanec was the special teams quality control and personnel assistant at Texas Tech in 2017 and was an intern to the football chief of staff for the Red Raiders during the summers from 2013-2015. He was also the running backs and offensive graduate assistant at Case Western University for the 2016 season, during which running back Jacob Burke earned second-team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference honors, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and ranking 18th in Division III with 16 touchdowns.
 
Schovanec played both baseball and football at Carroll University in Wisconsin from 2012-15, then played his senior season at Case Western, where the baseball program earned a 2016 NCAA Division III playoff berth. He received a bachelor of science in business administration and management from Carroll in 2015 and a Master of science in management and finance from Case Western in 2017.
 
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Schovanec attended Lubbock High School.
