Kendrick Kitchens is entering his fourth season overall at HBU and his third working with the wide receivers.
In 2019, both Jerreth Sterns and Ben Ratzlaff earned All-Southland Conference Third Team honors. Sterns led the nation in receptions and became HBU’s all-time leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Ratzlaff set HBU single-season records for receiving yards and touchdowns, becoming the first HBU receiver or running back with more than 1,000 yards in a season.
Prior to HBU, Kitchens spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons as the wide receivers coach at Blinn College. During his tenure at Blinn, he coached three conference All-Americans, as well as the 2014 Southwest Junior College Offensive Player of the Year.
Kitchens was previously the wide receivers coach at Willowridge High School in Missouri City, Texas, where he was responsible for teaching a young receiving group the fundamentals and techniques of the position. He coached three wide receivers and one kick returner to all-district honors.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kitchens played wide receiver at Jackson State University under head coach James Carson from 1994-97. Kitchens was part of Jackson State’s Southwestern Athletic Conference championship teams in 1995 and 1996, and spent part of the 1997 and 1998 seasons in the San Diego Chargers’ camp.
Kitchens earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Jackson State in 1998. He and his wife, Nikki, have an 9-year old son, and a 3-year old daughter.
