Box Score HOUSTON – The HCU volleyball squad opened Southland Conference play at home versus a tough Northwestern State team.
The Huskies started the first set off strong, taking an early 16-10 lead over the Demons, before the Demons rallied back to tie up the score 24-24. With the score tied up, the Huskies fought and scored the last two points to close out the first set 26-24. In the second set, both teams kept another close set until NSU found a 23-20 lead late in the set and managed to close out the second set with a score of 25-22. With the Match tied at 1-1, both teams went back and forth once again, until Northwestern State found a sudden shift of momentum and won the set 25-23. Having found their rhythm, NSU scored fast and early in the fourth set, taking a 15-8 lead halfway through the set. Despite efforts by HCU to make a comeback and even the score, NSU closed out the set 25-17, winning the match 3-1.
In the match today, the Huskies were led offensively by junior
Katy Barger, who had 14 kills, 41 attacks, and 14.5 total points. Defensively,
Bianca Byerly led the team with 23 digs on the day.
HCU returns to Sharp Gym to take on the East Texas A&M Lions on Saturday, Sep. 26 at 6:30 pm, a game that will also be streamed on ESPN+.
