Box Score HOUSTON - Husky volleyball closed out their last tournament before Southland Conference play by taking on a tough Houston Cougars squad at the Fertitta Center.
In the first set, the Cougars found their stride, taking a 9-4 lead early and staying in rhythm to close out the set 25-14. HCU was able to fight back in the second set, scoring more points than the first, but eventually fell to a score of 25-19. UH closed out the third set after taking an 18-9 lead, ending the set 25-18, and ending the match.
HCU was led on the offensive end by newcomer I'Onna Jones, who led the team with 8 kills and 27 attacks. Defensively, freshman
Malaya Balina-Ayers impacted the game, adding 6 blocks in the match today.
The Huskies will be back at home on Thursday, Sep. 24 to begin SLC play against the Northwestern State Demons at 6:30 pm.
