TULSA, Oklahoma --- Houston Christian University got a hard-earned draw on Saturday night with Oral Roberts University at the Case Soccer Complex in the final non-conference matchup of the regular season.
Â
The two clubs spent a very defensive first 45 minutes, entering the intermission with no score on the board. The Huskies held the Golden Eagles without a shot but had only four of their own, including saved opportunities from
Clarenns Sainrimat and
Ryan Okerayi.
Â
ORU broke the ice just over seven minutes into the second frame, grabbing a 1-nil lead on a score from Graham Condley assisted by Emre Aydin. That lead would only hold up for about eight minutes before the Huskies broke through.
Â
HCU earned a corner and the entry from
Henrik Sakshaug found
Nico Kross for a header on the backside at the stroke of the hour mark to give the Huskies their equalizer.
Â
The game ended with each team taking seven total shots. The hosts had all four of theirs in the second 45 minutes, while HCU added just one, but what a one it was on the leveler from Kross. It was the first goal of the season for Kross, while Sakshaug had his second assist in as many games.
Â
HCU ends the non-conference slate with a 2-4-2 mark. The Huskies now turn their attention to the 10-game Ohio Valley Conference schedule, which begins next Saturday at Sorrels Field against longtime arch-rival University of the Incarnate Word.
