Box Score EDINBURG, Texas – The HCU volleyball squad stayed on the road this weekend after falling to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday to face a strong UTRGV team in Edinburg.
The first set of the match was closely contested, which saw both teams scoring points back and forth in an extended set that ultimately ended in a short rally from UTRGV to win the set 28-26. After catching their stride in the first set, the Vaqueros scored fast and early in the second set, taking a quick 11-6 lead until the Huskies battled back and shortened the lead to 17-15. Using what momentum they still had left, the Vaqueros rallied to score eight straight points and end the set 25-15. In the third set, HCU fought back and kept a close set until the very end but ultimately fell to a three-point run that ended the set 27-25 and ended the match with the Vaqueros on top 3-0.
On the court today, the Huskies were led by Enisilina Savelio, who added 25 assists and 8 digs, and
Bianca Byerly, who led a 13-dig effort for the Huskies today.
Husky volleyball will be back on the road next weekend for two more away conference games, the first against Lamar on Thursday, Oct. 8 followed by a matchup versus SFA in Nacogdoches on Saturday, Oct. 10.
