LINCOLN, Neb. – HCU football is back on the road this weekend with the program's third-ever game against a "Power Four" opponent on the docket when the Huskies face the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The game will be aired on FS1 while Nicholas Pietrzycki will handle play-by-play duties on Patriot Talk 920 AM.
The Huskies' (1-1) visit to Memorial Stadium will mark the program's first time playing a member of the Big Ten Conference while the previous two games against power conference opponents came in 2020, when the Huskies nearly upset Texas Tech in Lubbock, and last year when HCU faced SMU in its first season as a part of the ACC.
Last weekend, HCU was undone on the road against Eastern Kentucky in a 20-10 final. The Huskies turned the ball over four times with the Colonels turning those turnovers into 13 points. The HCU defense limited EKU to just 173 yards of total offense in the loss. Redshirt freshman wide receiver
Tamarcus Gray Jr. finished the night with 80 yards receiving on 10 receptions.
HCU boasts the top defense in the Southland Conference through the second week of the season, allowing just 139 yards of total offense per game. Impressively, the Huskies have allowed just one third down conversion by opponents in 32 attempts for the best third conversion defense percentage in the nation.
The Cornhuskers (2-0) have opened the season with a pair of wins, first a 20-17 victory on a neutral field against Cincinnati before taking down Akron, 68-0, last Saturday.
Quarterback Dylan Raiola has thrown for 607 yards with six touchdowns on 57-of73 passing. Emmett Johnson has been the team's primary ball-carrier, rolling up 248 yards on 39 carries. As a team, Nebraska has held opponents to just 131 yards passing in two games while allowing 315 yards on the ground.
The Huskies return to Husky Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 20, for their final non-conference game of the season against the Northern Colorado Bears at 6:00 p.m.
