VB: Huskies Head to San Antonio for Midweek Matchup at UIW

Houston Christian looks to bounce back and even its Southland record before closing the regular season at home.

SAN ANTONIO, Tx. – Houston Christian Volleyball travels to San Antonio on Wednesday evening to face Incarnate Word in a key Southland Conference matchup at the McDermott Convocation Center. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Huskies (12-15, 7-7 SLC) enter the contest seeking to rebound from a 3-0 loss at UT Rio Grande Valley last weekend. HCU sits tied for sixth in the conference standings and aims to secure momentum heading into its final regular-season stretch before the Southland Championship later this month.

Junior outside hitter Allana Archie continues to anchor the Huskies' offense, leading the team with 267 kills and 65 blocks, while setter Peyton Fadal directs the attack with 695 assists on the year. Defensively, Bianca Byerly paces HCU with 327 digs and a team-high 32 service aces, supported by libero Anna Melgren, who has tallied 238 digs.

Houston Christian averages 13.0 kills per set and 15.2 digs per set, showing balanced effort across both phases of play. The Huskies' ability to control tempo and limit errors will be crucial against a UIW squad currently riding a four-match home winning streak.

The Cardinals (14-12, 10-4 SLC) are coming off a hard-fought 3-2 road victory over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. Offensively, Kyla Malone (286 kills) and Finley Evans (252 kills) lead the charge, while setter Calissa Allison fuels the offense with 767 assists and 33 aces. Defensively, Ashton Rogers leads UIW with 389 digs, and Kade Thomas fronts the blocking effort with 73 total blocks.

Wednesday's meeting marks the first between the teams this season, though the Huskies have historically controlled the series, holding a 13-5 all-time record and sweeping the Cardinals 3-0 in their most recent encounter on Nov. 5, 2024.

After Wednesday's contest, Houston Christian will return home to close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. against UIW in Sharp Gym before heading to Commerce for the Southland Conference Championship (Nov. 20-23).
