HOUSTON, Texas – The volleyball team continues its Southland Conference run this Thursday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. in Sharp Gym, hosting Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. The Huskies enter the match riding a perfect 4-0 start in league play, sweeping every opponent 3-0, including victories over McNeese, Nicholls, East Texas A&M, and Northwestern State.
HCU (9-8, 4-0 SLC) holds a 9-8 record and has shown steady performance this season. The team leads with 707 kills, 639 assists, and 841 digs, showing a balanced attack and strong defense. Standouts like
Allana Archie (150 kills) and
Peyton Fadal (443 assists) continue to drive the Huskies' success, while
Bianca Byerly leads the team in digs (185) and service aces (21), proving her all-around impact.
Texas A&M–Corpus Christi (6-10, 2-2 SLC) enters the match with mixed results in conference play. The Islanders have wins against Lamar and Northwestern State, but suffered losses to SFA and East Texas A&M. Their top contributors include Katelyn Krienke (118 kills) and Virginia Van Der Werff (558 assists), both critical to the Islanders' offensive game.
Historically, HCU has struggled against the Islanders, with only 7 wins in 25 all-time matchups. The Huskies' last meeting, on Nov. 14, 2024, ended in a 0-3 loss on the road. However, with home-court advantage and a team playing at the top of its Southland game, HCU is looking to flip the script and extend its undefeated streak in conference play.
