VB: Huskies Head to Beaumont for Saturday Matchup Against Lamar

HCU looks to get back in the win column as the Southland schedule continues

BEAUMONT, Texas — The volleyball team continues Southland Conference play on the road this weekend, traveling east to face Lamar on Saturday morning at McDonald Gym. First serve is set for 11 a.m.

The Huskies (10-10, 5-2 SLC) enter the match looking to rebound after back-to-back road losses at UT Rio Grande Valley and Stephen F. Austin. Prior to that stretch, HCU opened conference play with five consecutive victories, including sweeps over East Texas A&M-Commerce, Northwestern State, McNeese, and Nicholls, and a 3-1 win over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.

Despite the recent setbacks, the Huskies remain in strong position within the Southland standings, tied for third place alongside Southeastern and UIW. Lamar (11-11, 4-3 SLC) follows closely behind in sixth, riding a four-match winning streak after a 3-1 home victory over Incarnate Word on Thursday night.

HCU holds a perfect 7–0 record all-time against Lamar, dating back to the program's first meeting in 2021. The two teams last met in October 2024, when the Huskies claimed a five-set win at Sharp Gym.

Senior outside hitter Allana Archie continues to pace the HCU attack with 192 kills and a .313 hitting percentage, while Joya Euhus and Hannah Redrow have added 141 and 137 kills, respectively. Setter Peyton Fadal leads the offense with 569 assists, and Bianca Byerly anchors the back row with 226 digs and a team-high 25 service aces.

As a team, the Huskies are averaging 12.8 kills per set and hitting .191 on the season. Their defense has totaled over 1,000 digs and 103 blocks through 20 matches.

Lamar enters the weekend led by Maja Malinowska, who ranks among the league's top hitters with 266 kills and 240 digs. Alexa Gonzalez runs the Cardinal offense with 591 assists and a team-leading 28 aces, while Daniella Udegbunam leads the front line with 98 blocks. Lamar has proven to be one of the Southland's top blocking teams, averaging 2.3 per set.

Following Saturday's contest, the Huskies will return home to Sharp Gym to host New Orleans on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for the annual Dig Pink Match, supporting breast cancer awareness.
