MGOLF: Huskies Tie for Sixth at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HCU opens Bayou City Collegiate Classic with solid play

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU men's golf team opened the Bayou City Collegiate Classic with consistent performances, finishing the first day at +2 and placing them tied for sixth with UTRGV. Abilene Christian University and Sam Houston State lead the tournament at an impressive -25, followed closely by Rice at -22.

Sophomore Brooks Pawlak showcased outstanding play, recording rounds of -1 and -4 to finish the day at -10, placing him 10th individually. He marked six birdies in his first round, including five on the front nine for a score of 33 (-3). Although he struggled on the first nine of his second round, he rallied with six birdies on the back nine, including three consecutive birdies.

Junior Roy Barrera started with a challenging +3 but bounced back with a -3 in the second 18 holes, currently sitting in 36th place. His first round featured two birdies on the front nine, and his second round included three birdies and one eagle, highlighted by a bogey-free front nine with an eagle on hole 6, a par 5.

Junior Mason Napier delivered consistent rounds of +1 and even par, placing him 40th. He scored four birdies on each of the 18-hole rounds.

Freshman Brendon Willey is currently in 68th place with a +6 total. After a rough start on the front nine, he bounced back to shoot a -1 on the second nine with three remarkable birdies. His second round also started slowly, but he finished strong with another bogey-free -1, making eight consecutive pars and closing with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Benjamin Dabos had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.

Tomorrow, the Huskies will tee off from 8:10 to 8:50 AM, starting from hole 1, competing against ULM and Lamar. Fans can follow live scoring on scoreboard.
