MGOLF: Huskies Set to Compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Huskies will take on a strong field at Rice University-hosted event

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU men's golf team is set to compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Rice University. The tournament will take place on Monday, September 30, and Tuesday, October 1, at the Westwood Golf Club in Houston. The field includes teams from Abilene Christian, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, Samford, Sam Houston, UT-Arlington, UTRGV, and Wichita State. Additionally, individuals from powerhouse programs such as LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M will also participate.

The Huskies' lineup for the tournament includes:
  • Brendon Willey, Junior
    Willey is coming off a strong performance at the Zach Johnson Invitational, where he finished with a total of 216 (+3), tied for 17th place. He showcased his ability with an impressive 67 in the final round.
     
  • Roy Barrera, Sophomore
    Barrera has been consistent, competing in both the K-State Wildcat Invitational and the Zach Johnson Invitational. He tied for 22nd at K-State with a score of 223 (+7) and followed that up with a 220 (+7) at the Zach Johnson Invitational, placing 33rd.
     
  • Brooks Pawlak, Junior
    Pawlak placed 23rd at the Zach Johnson Invitational with a total of 218 (+5). He also competed at the K-State Wildcat Invitational, finishing with a score of 233 (+17), showing improvement in his recent outings.
     
  • Ben Dabos, Junior
    Dabos delivered solid performances in recent tournaments, finishing T-48 at the K-State Wildcat Invitational with a score of 232 (+16), and improving to T-36 at the Zach Johnson Invitational with a 221 (+8) total.
     
  • Mason Napier, Senior
    Napier continues to provide veteran leadership for the team, finishing 57th at the K-State Wildcat Invitational with a score of 235 (+19), followed by a T-59 finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational with a 225 (+12).
     
  • Clayton Smith, Freshman
    Smith continues to gain experience, competing at the K-State Wildcat Invitational where he shot a 244 (+28) total.

Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Huskies will be competing against Rice, UT-Arlington, UTRGV, Abilene Christian, and Lamar, among others.

Following this tournament, the Huskies will head to the La Tour Intercollegiate, set for October 21-22.
