MGOLF: Huskies Place 8th at Second Tournament of Fall Season

Huskies maintain position to finish 8th at the Zach Johnson Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa – The HCU men's golf team wrapped up the Zach Johnson Invitational, finishing 8th with a total score of 872 (+20). The Huskies opened the tournament with a 293 in the first round, followed by their best round of 288 in the second, and closed with a 291 on the final day. Iowa State took home the tournament title, finishing at -9.

Brendon Willey led the Huskies with a stellar final round, shooting -4, which was not only the best score of the day for HCU but also the second-best individual score across the entire tournament. Willey finished tied for 17th with a total score of 216 (+3), posting rounds of 74, 75, and 67. His final round included four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th hole, with a 33 on the front nine and 34 on the back for a consistent performance.

Brooks Pawlik finished tied for 23rd, with scores of 74, 70, and 74 for a total of 218 (+5). Despite two double bogeys on the front nine today, Pawlik recovered with three birdies, finishing with a 38 on the front and a solid 36 on the back nine, highlighted by birdies on holes 16 and 18.

Roy Barrera placed tied for 33rd at +7, with rounds of 72, 73, and 75, for a total of 220. Barrera had a strong front nine today, shooting -1 with two birdies and one bogey for a 34. However, he faced challenges on the back nine with a triple bogey on hole 17, finishing with a 41, despite a birdie on the par-5 11th hole.

Benjamin Dabos finished tied for 36th with a total score of 221 (+8), posting rounds of 76, 70, and 75. Dabos had a steady round today, shooting 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back. He carded four birdies, three of which came on par-5s, but ran into trouble with a triple bogey on the par-3 16th hole.

Mason Napier finished tied for 59th, with scores of 73, 77, and 75, for a total of 225 (+12). Napier's final round featured three birdies on holes 6, 8, and 15, which helped offset some challenging holes throughout the day.

Up next, the Huskies will stay in Houston to compete in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Country Club, hosted by Rice.
