FRISCO, Texas – HCU junior setter
Grace McLaughlin has been selected as the first Southland Conference Setter of the Week of the 2024 season for her opening weekend performance. It is the fourth time in her career to earn the accolade, having been named three times during the 2023 season.
McLaughlin averaged 9.15 assists per set while posting double-doubles in each of the Huskies' first three matches at the Rice Invitational, helping guide the Huskies to a pair of tough five-set losses to Texas State and Rice before a straight-set win over TSU.
In the season-opener against Texas State, McLaughlin had 49 assists while also registering 17 digs and four kills. That evening, she added 43 assists, 16 digs and three kills against an Owls team picked to win the American Athletic Conference. McLaughlin then wrapped up the tournament with 27 assists and 12 digs in a three-set win over the TSU Tigers.
McLaughlin and the Huskies will be at home this coming week as they host the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament from Thursday, Sept. 5, through Saturday, Sept. 7. HCU hosts Howard, Kansas City and New Mexico in Sharp Gym.
