HOUSTON – HCU football is set to take on Louisiana Christian in a first-ever meeting between the two programs this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium. Saturday's matchup will be shown on ESPN+ with Garrett Jones providing play-by-play and Jackson Cochran serving as analyst while Luke Mauro provides radio play-by-play on Patriot Talk 920 AM.
HCU (0-2) is aiming for its first win under head coach
Jason Bachtel after opening the season against ACC-member SMU and 20
th-ranked Tarleton State. Last week against the Texans, redshirt sophomore
AJ Wilson caught his first touchdown pass of the season and finished the night with 51 yards receiving on four catches. Senior
Calvin Wiggins also hauled in four passes for 50 yards.
Defensively, junior
Taylor Behl recorded 13 tackles in his Husky debut while fellow linebacker
D.J. Harris ended the game with 10 tackles.
Markeis Sykes was credited with his first sack of the season among his six tackles.
Louisiana Christian (0-1) started the season ranked No. 22 among NAIA programs but fell out of the rankings after dropping its' season-opener at 12
th-ranked St. Thomas (FL), 56-10. Running back Datlan Cunningham rushed for 61 yards on 11 carries to lead the Wildcats' rushing attack while receiver Brennan Maye-Jordan scored the team's lone touchdown on a 47-yard touchdown catch. Quarterback River Thompson was 13-of-27 throwing the ball for 117 yards with two interceptions and one touchdown.
The Huskies travel west on I-10 next weekend for the team's second FBS matchup of the season, taking on UTSA in San Antonio, Texas at the Alamodome at 2:30 p.m.
