Houston Christian University Head Coach
Ryan Pratt announced Monday that that his recruiting class has grown to double-figures, as Theo Butterworth has been added to the group for the upcoming 2024 season.
Â
The 6'0 defender comes to the Huskies from Lancaster, England and Lancaster Royal School. He has most recently played club for Fleetwood Town U18's.
Butterworth becomes the third newcomer hailing from England, joining previous signings Morgan Worsfold-Gregg and Rio Pemberton.
Â
PRATT ON BUTTERWORTH:
Â
"Theo is a talented central defender with ability to play any of the three center back roles very well. He reads the game very well, is good in the air and across the ground, and is tough-physical defender. He also has the technical ability that fits our building style of play. We are very excited to have him joining us at HCU."
Â
The addition of Butterworth pushes the 2024 recruiting class to ten; six first-year players and four transfers. He will begin his time with HCU in the Fall of 2024 alongside recent spring signings, Jaiden Ramsay-Kelly, Jake Salas, Daniel Ejerenwa and Pemberton.
Â
That trio will join Worsfold-Gregg, an early Fall 2023 signing, as well as Sebastian Rodriguez, Freddy Ferguson, Armando Torres Cruz and Simeon Dishman who all signed in January. Those five are currently on campus for the Spring semester.
Â
The Huskies lost just six seniors off of the 2023 squad that went 4-8-6 in the program's first season in the Ohio Valley Conference. The club does return OVC Midfielder of the Year
D'Alessandro Herrera as well as OVC Freshman of the Year
Ryan Okerayi, each of which were selected to the All-OVC First team.
