VB: Huskies Prepare for First Match of SLC Tournament

HCU set to face SFA in the opening round

HAMMOND, Louisiana – The HCU Huskies volleyball team (11-16, 8-8 SLC) is gearing up for its first-round matchup in the Southland Conference Tournament against the third-seeded Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (22-7, 12-4 SLC). The match will take place on Friday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m. in the University Center.

HCU enters the tournament as the sixth-seeded team after finishing the regular season with a .500 record in conference play. The Huskies are looking to bounce back after dropping their last two matches, falling 3-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 3-0 to UT Rio Grande Valley. Despite the losses, HCU will rely on standout performances from middle blocker Audrey Pearce, who was named First-Team All-Conference after recording 120 blocks this season. Outside hitter Emerald Jacobs, a Second-Team All-Conference selection, leads the Huskies' offense with an average of 3.58 kills per set and 14 matches with double-digit kills. In the back row, Tatiana Evans has been a key contributor, totaling 417 digs this season with an average of 3.86 digs per set.

Stephen F. Austin enters the tournament on a four-match winning streak, including recent victories over McNeese, Nicholls, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Ladyjacks will be led by Katherine Holtman, who was named Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Conference. Holtman has been a dominant force with 268 kills and 73 blocks this season, and she will look to carry her momentum into the postseason.

The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
