VB: The Huskies Prepare for Final Match Before Conference Tournament

HCU Takes on UTRGV for Last Match of the Season



EDINBURG, Texas – The Houston Christian University volleyball team will close out its regular season with one final match before the conference tournament. On Saturday, November 16, the Huskies will face off against UT Rio Grande Valley at 2 p.m. in Edinburg, Texas.

The Huskies last played on November 14 (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas. Unfortunately, they fell in straight sets, 0-3.

Leading the way for the Huskies, Audrey Pearce has 305 kills, with Emerald Jacobs close behind at 269 and Ana Garza contributing 201 kills. Pearce has also been a dominant force defensively with 120 blocks, followed by Allana Archie with 62. Grace McLaughlin has been the key playmaker for HCU, recording 952 assists, while Peyton Fadal adds 140 assists. In service aces, Bianca Byerly and Alexia Jones each have 27, with Tatiana Evans contributing 21. Defensively, Evans leads the Huskies with 403 digs, followed by McLaughlin with 281 and Jones with 218. These players have consistently led the Huskies throughout the season, excelling in both offense and defense.

UTRGV, who also played on November 14 (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m., defeated Incarnate Word 3-0 in Edinburg, Texas, during their Senior Night celebration.

Ilana De Assis has been the top offensive contributor for UTRGV with 349 kills, followed by Claudia Lupescu (314) and Nadine Zech (282). The team's main setter, Isabella Costantini, has recorded 982 assists, with Alessia Couchond adding 87. Costantini also leads the team in service aces with 40, while Lupescu has 28, and Natalie Reyes has 25. On defense, Celianiz Cabranes leads with 434 digs, while De Assis adds 236 and Lupescu contributes 215. Perris Key has been a force at the net with 50 blocks, followed by Elise Fourt with 38 and Lupescu with 31. These standout performances have been key to UTRGV's success across all aspects of the game.

The Huskies previously faced UTRGV on October 5, falling 1-3 in a hard-fought match at Sharp Gym in Houston.
