COMMERCE, Texas – Saturday afternoon will mark the final road game of the 2024 season for the HCU football team when they face off against the East Texas A&M Lions at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in a Southland Conference contest. Husky fans can watch on ESPN+ or listen in on Patriot Talk 920 AM with Luke Mauro providing play-by-play.

Saturday's matchup will be the third meeting between the two programs with the home team winning each of the first two meetings. The Huskies (4-6, 2-3 SLC) won last year's game in Houston, 17-13, while the Lions (2-8, 1-3 SLC) took the 2022 meeting in Commerce, 31-3.

HCU snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with a 24-21 win over defending SLC champion Nicholls. Senior kicker Dillon Fedor booted a game-winning 50-yard field goal with under a minute to play to move to 13-of-13 on field goal attempts for the season. He earned SLC Special Teams Player of the Week and is one of just two FCS kickers without a miss this year.

Wide receiver AJ Wilson posted his second-consecutive 100-yard receiving game thanks in large part to his 97-yard touchdown reception from Cutter Stewart. That touchdown pass was the longest passing play in the FCS this season and is tied for the longest play from scrimmage in the FCS this year. The redshirt sophomore, in just his second year playing receiver, is now leading the nation with 22.55 yards per reception.

Junior defensive lineman Zae Smith set a new career-high with nine tackles and recorded a pair of sacks in the win. He now has nine sacks for his career and is tied for fourth on the HCU all-time list. Linebacker Braden Hay also finished with nine tackles and is currently 18th nationally with 9.3 tackles per game.

East Texas A&M, formerly Texas A&M-Commerce, is also coming off a win having defeated Stephen F. Austin, 19-14, at home last Saturday. The Lions fell behind 14-3 before a pair of touchdown passes from Ron Peace and a field goal lifted ETAMU to the win. Peace threw for 312 yards in the win. Linebacker Brandon Tucker Jr. earned SLC Defensive Player of the Week on the back of his 19-tackle effort.

Tucker has 119 tackles this season with 13.5 tackles for loss, leading a defense with 76 TFLs in 10 games. Peace has seen the majority of snaps at quarterback for the Lions, completing 55.27 percent (152-of-275) of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

HCU will close out the 2024 season next Saturday, Nov. 23, when they host Northwestern State at 2:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
