HOUSTON – The HCU football team follows up last weekend's 43-22 Southland Conference win over 22nd-ranked McNeese by hosting the Southeastern Lions at Husky Stadium this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon's game will be shown on ESPN+ with Garrett Jones providing play-by-play and Jackson Cochran serving as analyst while fans can also tune in to the Patriot Talk 920 AM radio broadcast with Jordan Smith.

HCU (3-3, 1-1 SLC) and Southeastern (2-4, 1-0 SLC) each opened conference play with wins this past Saturday, setting up the winner of Saturday's game to sit atop the early league standings. The Huskies rolled up more than 600 yards of total offense with a program record 414 yards rushing in their win over McNeese, HCU's first-ever win over a ranked opponent, while SLU used a balanced offense and stout run defense to defeat Texas A&M-Commerce at home, 21-9.

The Huskies currently rank fourth in the SLC in rushing yards per game, averaging 169.7, against a schedule that has included a pair of FBS opponents and one NAIA opponent. In HCU's three games against FCS competition the Huskies are averaging 238.7 yards per game on the ground with an average of 5.3 yards per rush.

Senior Calvin Hill currently leads the Huskies' stable of running backs with 261 yards rushing on 48 carries while Darryle Evans has 242 yards on 44 carries. Quarterback Eli Brickhandler rushed for 138 yards on Saturday for the 10th-highest single-game total in HCU history.

The HCU defense is currently tied for sixth in the FCS with eight interceptions for the season. Xavier Toliver and Khary Crump each have two picks for a Husky defense that has at least one interception in each of the last five games.

Saturday will mark the Lions first visit to Houston since the 2019 season. Last year, in Hammond, La., the Huskies secured their first-ever victory over Southeastern with a 34-19 win. HCU finished that win with 549 yards of total offense and Darryle Evans rushing for a career-high 173 yards.

This season, sophomore running back Antonio Martin Jr. is leading the way for the Lions with 737 yards rushing for an average of 122.8 yards per game on the ground while averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Eli Sawyer has handled the lion's share of snaps at quarterback, completing 58.57 percent of his passes for 684 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions.

Linebacker Donte' Daniels has registered a team-best 40 tackles for SLU with KK Reno adding 37. Defensive linemen Kaleb Proctor and Joshua Randall each own the team-lead with 2.5 sacks. In their SLC opener last week against Texas A&M-Commerce, the Lions held the visitors to just 277 yards of offense.

HCU has its bye week following Saturday's game with the schedule picking back up on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a visit to Nacogdoches, Texas to take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at 6:00 p.m.
