HCU Hosts the HCU Husky Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU men's golf team is set to host its final tournament of the season, the HCU Husky Intercollegiate, taking place October 28-29 (Monday and Tuesday) at the scenic and challenging Riverbend Country Club. The course, designed by Press Maxwell Jr., is known for its beauty and demanding layout, offering a fitting stage for the season's close.

The tournament will feature a competitive lineup, including Houston Christian University (A and B teams), Middle Tennessee State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Stephen F. Austin, Prairie View A&M, Rice, New Orleans, Incarnate Word, the University of Houston, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas Southern, California Baptist, and DePaul. With such a diverse field, the event promises intense competition among skilled golfers.

The Huskies' lineup features a strong starting five in the "A" team: Brooks Pawlak, Benjamin Dabos, Roy Barrera, Mason Napier, and Brendon Willey. Representing the "B" team are Clayton Smith, Haven McEntire, Shaheen Momin, and Binh Pham. This season, the HCU men's golf team has shown consistent growth, highlighted by a fourth-place team finish at the La Tour Intercollegiate and a season-low round of 278. Notable achievements include an eighth-place finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic and impressive performances from Barrera and Pawlak, who averaged 72.7 and 73.2 strokes per round, respectively. Barrera led with five rounds at or under par, while Willey posted the team's lowest score of 67 at the Zach Johnson Invitational.

HCU tees off for Round 1 with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. on Monday. The "A" team, led by Pawlak, will begin at Position 1 (1b) alongside golfers from California Baptist and Middle Tennessee State, while each teammate starts on various holes. The "B" team's Momin, McEntire, Pham, and Smith will also tee off from designated positions.
