HCU Set for Ninth SLC Game as They Face Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – HCU's volleyball team heads to Texas A&M-Commerce for their ninth Southland Conference matchup out of 16, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m.

The Huskies have demonstrated resilience throughout their SLC play. They opened strong with back-to-back 3-1 wins over Nicholls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, followed by a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lamar. Despite competitive efforts, they faced setbacks against top teams like Stephen F. Austin, UT Rio Grande Valley, and UIW. A 3-1 win over McNeese provided a rebound, though HCU recently fell to Southeastern Louisiana. The Huskies remain determined to build on their conference momentum.

Individually, HCU's players continue to make significant contributions. Audrey Pearce leads the team with 221 kills and 94 blocks, showing dominance on both ends of the court. Emerald Jacobs and Ana Garza follow closely with 170 and 151 kills, respectively, while Grace McLaughlin directs the offense with a team-high 722 assists. On defense, Tatiana Evans leads with 296 digs, with McLaughlin and Bianca Byerly adding 212 and 179, respectively. Byerly also leads the service game with 26 aces, supported by Alexia Jones with 15.

However, they've since encountered challenges, facing six consecutive losses against tough opponents like Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, and UTRGV. The Lions are looking to end their streak and remain competitive.

Commerce's top performers include Kitana Tuufuli, who leads with 207 kills, and Reese Fetty, who has recorded 195. Ellie Baumert supports the offense with 561 assists, while Jade Smith anchors the defense with 414 digs.
