VB: Huskies to Host SLC Match Against Lamar

Huskies return to Sharp Gym for SLC showdown


 
HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU volleyball team (5-11) will face Lamar (10-7) in Southland Conference action at Sharp Gym on Saturday, October 12, at 11 a.m. This will be the Huskies' sixth conference match of the season. HCU started strong, winning their first two SLC matches, but they are looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Huskies last faced UIW in a hard-fought five-set battle in San Antonio, where they narrowly fell short with scores of 19-25, 13-25, 25-21, 22-25, and 14-16. Despite a strong third-set win and key contributions from Emerald Jacobs, Audrey Pearce, and Ana Garza, UIW capitalized on crucial moments in the fifth set to claim the victory. Jacobs led HCU with 13 kills and 3 aces, while Tatiana Evans anchored the defense with 26 digs.

HCU's leaders continue to deliver standout performances. Audrey Pearce leads the team in kills with 194, followed by Ana Garza with 127 and Emerald Jacobs with 117. Grace McLaughlin has been instrumental with 594 assists, while Peyton Fadal and Tatiana Evans contribute 59 and 42 assists, respectively. Evans also leads the team with 231 digs, and Bianca Byerly has tallied 25 service aces. Pearce stands out in blocks with 80 on the season.

Lamar enters the match coming off a 0-3 loss to SFA. Maja Malinowska leads the Cardinals with 202 kills, closely followed by Lyric Jordan with 198. Alexa Gonzalez commands the offense with 550 assists, while Keeley Nellis leads with 22 service aces and 260 digs. Ashlyn Gamble heads Lamar's blocking game with 48 blocks, supported by Annie Cathey with 39.

After Saturday's match, the Huskies will hit the road to face McNeese on Thursday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m. in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
