MSOC: Huskies drop final non-conference outing with 3-0 defeat at Pacific

HCU now embarks on inaugural season in Ohio Valley Conference

STOCKTON, Calif. —- HCU dropped its second straight game, falling to Pacific 3-0 at Knoles Field on Saturday night in the final non-conference match of the regular season.

The two teams spent the first 20 minutes feeling things out before the first real chance on goal occured, as a blast by Pacific's Danny Govea was knocked over the crossbar by Alex Aitken at the 20:51 mark.

The Huskies would dodge a bullet less than two minutes after that, as a free kick deep in HCU territory would cross directly in front but was whiffed on in the box.

HCU would not be so fortunate just three minutes later, as a couple of pokes by Pacific on the left side of the goal resulted in George Riveral knocking it in from point blank range, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.

The Tigers would put another on the board in the 35th minute. Abdullahi Mohamed slipped a pass through a couple of defenders, finding Vinzent Zingel in the 18-yard box. Zingel caught it on his right foot and put home a shot to the bottom left corner, giving Pacific a 2-0 advantage.

Victor Velasco got the only HCU shot on goal of the first half in the 43rd minute, as he put a left footed strike right on Pacific goalie Josh Moya, who handled it cleanly.

The second half would see very little opportunity wise for either club until the 68th minute, when Pacific earned a penalty kick off a foul by Ethan Giwa-McNeil. Cory Johnson blasted it into the right side off the spot, giving the Tigers a comfortable 3-0 lead.

HCU managed just seven shots on the night with only two coming on goal. Alex Aitken faced nine total shots and made four saves.

Pacific, now 4-2-3 on the season, got a clean sheet from Moya, his second of the season, while Riberal, Zingel and Johnson provided single scores.

HCU suffers its second straight loss, falling to 2-4-2 overall. The Huskies will now set their sights on the inaugural season of Ohio Valley Conference action, which begins with a road trek to San Antonio to take on UIW on Thursday, September 28.
