Southland announces conference basketball slates for 2023-24

New format for both MBB and WBB includes Saturday doubleheaders

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference has released its 2023-24 men's and women's basketball conference schedule, announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.

This season will feature a new format for league games as the men will play on Saturday and Monday and the women on Thursday and Saturday, making all Saturdays doubleheaders for the entirety of the schedule.

For the second consecutive year, the regular season will conclude on a Wednesday, this year on March 6 for both the men and women. The 2024 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament will again be held at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana from March 10-14.

Donna Finnie, now in her 11th season at the helm, leads the women into their conference campaign on Thursday, January 4 when the Huskies travel south to take on rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Huskies will play three of their first four on the road, before a three-game homestand near the end of January which features a matchup with defending regular-season and tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana on January 25.

Ron Cottrell returns for his 33rd season on the HCU sidelines as the second longest tenured coach in the nation.

The HCU men kick off their Southland slate on Saturday, January 6 versus Nicholls in Sharp Gymnasium before heading to Corpus Christi to take on rival and defending tournament champion TAMUCC on the following Monday.

The conference will get things rolling on Tuesday, October 10 with the SLC Basketball Media Days, scheduled to take place in the Lake Charles area with all 20 coaches between the men's and women's side present.

All conference games will be featured on ESPN+ throughout the season.
