MONTGOMERY, Texas - HCU currently sits in 13th place after day one of The Huntsville Toyota Walden Invitational hosted by Sam Houston State in Montgomery, Tx. The Huskies recorded rounds of 300 and 303 for a 603, 27-over par total.
Senior
Ransom Jacobson currently leads the Huskies at even-par after rounds of 73-71, 144 total. Jacobson carded two birdies in his opening round; before adding an additional four birdides in his second round on his way to a tie for 25
th after 36 holes.
Senior
Mason Ghidina fired back-to-back rounds of 75, with two birdies on the day coming in the opening round at the 5
th and 10
th holes. Ghidina recorded 15 pars in the second round on his way to a tie for 50th place after two rounds of competition.
Junior
Cooper New currently sits in a tie for 59th place individually after rounds of three-over par 75 and five-over par, 77. New carded two birdies at the 9
th and 16
th holes, before birdieing the 16
th hole again in his second round and adding another at the par-3 6
th hole.
Freshman
Roy Barrera finished day one in a tie for 79
th after recording rounds of five-over par 77, and eight-over par 80. Barrera carded two birdies in his opening round, before adding one birdie in his second round at the par-5 2
nd hole. Â on his way to an even-par 72.
Senior
Ben Caton rounds out the team lineup in 87th place at 27-over par. Caton opened the day with a 14-over par, 86, including a birdie at the 519-yard par-5 16th hole. Caton added another birdie during round two at the par-4, 13
th hole, on his way to a 13-over par second round, 85.
Sam Houston State currently holds a seven-shot lead, at 11-under par, over North Alabama at four-under par. Rice sits eight shots back at three-under par after 36 holes. Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon is leading the tournament individually at six-under par. There are seven players, one-shot back, at five-under par.
The Huskies will close out The Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational on Tuesday, April 4
th. HCU will tee off one hole 10 starting at 8:00 a.m. playing alongside UIW and individuals representing Texas Tech, Rice, Sam Houston, and UNO.Â
