HOUSTON – HCU head football coach
Braxton Harris announced the addition of
Herschel Sims to his staff as an assistant coach on Thursday afternoon.
An Abilene, Texas native, Sims spent the last two seasons as a senior offensive quality control analyst at SMU, a period during which the Mustangs won 15 games. He led the inside receivers last season and was heavily involved in offensive recruiting efforts.
Prior to his time at SMU, Sims spent two seasons as tight ends coach and co-special teams coordinator at Richardson High School. He also had a stop at Southland Conference rival UIW and worked as an offensive graduate assistant at North Texas.
Sims was a running back in college, starting his career at Oklahoma State where he was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, before also playing at Lamar and concluding his career at Abilene Christian where he earned his bachelor of science in kinesiology. He also earned a master of science degree from North Texas.
