Senior Elise Parel and Freshman Alejandra Ferrer currently sit in a tie for first place individually after 36-holes of competition.

MCALLEN, Texas – The Huskies lead the way at the UTRGV Invitational through 36-holes at McAllen Country Club in McAllen, Tx. HCU fired a first round two-under par, 282, and a second round one-over par, 285, to hold a 12-shot lead heading into the final round on Tuesday, March 7th. The Huskies are looking to defend their team title after securing the win at the UTRGV Invitational in 2022.

Senior Elise Parel is tied for the individual lead at five-under par after shooting a first round two-under par, 69, with birdies at the 1st, 3rd, 8th, and 17th holes. Parel followed up with a second round three-under par, 68, recording 6 birdies. Parel leads the 81-player field in birdies, recording 10 on the day.

Freshman Alejandra Ferrer is also tied for the individual lead at five-under par recording rounds of three-under par, 68, and two-under par, 69 on day one. Ferrer started the tournament with a frenzy of birdies at the 5th, 6th, and 7th holes before adding a late birdie at the par-5 11th hole in her first round. Ferrer started the second round right where she left off, birdieing the 4th hole, making an eagle at the 5th, and birdieing the 7th, cruising to a 137 total headed into the final round.

Sophomore Lou Rousselot posted a one-over par, 72, in the first round and an even-par, 71, in her second round to sit in 6th place heading into the final 18 holes. Rousselot got off to a hot start birdieing the 1st hole before making back-to-back birdies at the 6th and 7th, as well as on holes 11 and 12. Rousselot continued good form in the second round, adding four birdies to her total to finish with a 143, one-over par total.

Junior Lucia Allub carded a first round two-over par, 73, with three sets of back-to-back birdies at the 7th and 8th, 11th and 12th, and 16th and 17th. Allub shot a second round eight-over par, 79, with a lone birdie at the par-4, 9th hole. Allub currently sits in a tie for 24th after 36-holes.

Sophomore Jackie Nguyen closes out the team line up for the Huskies sitting in a tie for 29th after rounds of five-over par, 76, and six-over par, 77. Nguyen made two birdies in the first round at the 9th and 16th, and added one more to her total in the second round at the par-5, 3rd hole.

Freshman Josalyn Keller, playing as an individual, carded back-to-back rounds of three-over par, 74, in her first outing as a Husky. Keller made two birdies in the opening 18-holes at the 12th and 16th, adding one more in the second round at the par-5, 11th hole. Keller is tied for 12th place individually headed into the final round.

HCU holds a 12-shot lead at one-under par, 567 team total, over tournament host, UTRGV, who currently sit at 11-over par, with a 579-team total. Texas A&M- Corpus Christi are currently in third place at 24-over par, recording a 592-team total. Lamar's Alessia Trebbi-Tindall is in third place at four-under par, with a 138 total, one shot behind HCU's Elise Parel and Alejandra Ferrer.

HCU will play the final round of the UTRGV Invitational on Tuesday, teeing off on holes one through three at 8:15 a.m. HCU will play alongside UTRGV and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. Live stats will be available via Golfstat.
