Seniors Ranspm Jacobson and Ben Caton lead HCU in a tie for 11th individually.

SUGAR LAND, TX – HCU kicked off the 2023 Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club (Pecan Course) with 36-holes played on Monday, March 6th. The Huskies A team fired rounds of seven-under par, 281 team total, and one-over par, 289 team total, putting them in 6th place headed into the final round. The Huskies B team recorded rounds of 14-over par, 302 team total, and 27-over par, 315 team total, and sitting in a 15th place with 18-holes left to play.

Senior Ransom Jacobson got off to a hot start posting a four-under par, 68 total, in round one with six birdies including two sets of back-to-back birdies at the 2nd and 3rd, and the 6th and 7th. Jacobson followed up with a second round even-par, 72 total, birdieing the 2nd, 11th, and 13th holes, cruising into a tie for 11th place individually headed into the final round.

Senior Ben Caton kick started his opening round making five birdies in eight holes on his way to a four-under par, 68 total, recording seven birdies in the first round. Caton carded a second round even-par, 72 total, making four birdies including two in a three-hole stretch, 14-16. Caton sits in a tie for 11th individually going into the final round.

Junior Cooper New shot an opening round two-over par, 74 total, with a birdie at the 3rd and back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes. New bounced back with a second round two-under par, 70 total, recording five birdies including back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th holes. New is currently tied for 22nd with 18-holes left to play.

Senior Mason Ghidina opened up his first round with a birdie at the 2nd followed by birdies at the 10th and the 16th holes, on his way to an even-par, 72 total. Ghidina followed up with a second round three-over par, 75 total, with a birdie at the par-5, 15th hole. Ghidina is tied for 39th through 36-holes.

Sophomore Shaheen Momin rounded out the A-team lineup tied for 39th after posting rounds of one-over par, 73 total, and four-over par, 76 total. Momin birdied three holes on the back-nine of his opening round (11th, 15th, and 18th holes). Momin added two more birdies in the second round at the 10th and 15th hole.

HCU's B team is led by freshman Roy Barrera who posted back-to-back rounds of three-over par, 75 total, with four birdies in the first round including back-to-back birdies at the 1st and 2nd hole. Barrera added two birdies in the second round in route to a tie for 55th heading into day two.

Freshman Mason Napier started the tournament with two sets of back-to-back birdies at the 1st and 2nd holes, and the 8th and 9th holes, on his way to an opening round even-par, 72 total. Napier added four birdies in the second round shooting a six-over par, 78 total, putting him in a tie for 55th going into the final round.

Sophomore Haven McEntire shot rounds of five-over par, 77 total, and nine-over par, 81 total. McEntire recorded three birdies on the first day on his way to a tie for 74th with 18-holes left to play.

Senior Michael Townsend fired rounds of six-over par, 78 total, and 10-over par, 82 total on day one. Townsend made five birdies on the day putting him in a tie for 77th.

Junior Oliver Dickman shot a first round seven-over par, 79 total, before shooting a second round nine-over par, 81 total. Dickman made five birdies on the day including back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes during round two. Dickman is tied for 77th heading into the final round.

Southeastern Louisiana holds a three-shot lead, at 14-under par, over Weber State at 11-under par. UIW sit in third at 10-under par, four shots back. Tarleton State's Jack Anderson claims a one-shot lead at 10-under par, just one shot ahead of Nicholl's Ryan O'Neal at nine-under par, and three-shots ahead of fellow teammate Max Bengtsson at seven-under par.

The final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with HCU- A Team teeing off on holes 5 through 9, playing with Tarleton State, Missouri State, and SFA. HCU- B Team will tee off on holes 14 through 18, playing with North Dakota, PVAMU, the University of Houston (four players), and Nicholls (one player).
