Parel leads Huskies to third place finish at HCU Husky Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas –The Huskies finished third as a team at this year's HCU Husky Invitational with a 38-over par, 902 team total, after rounds of 301, 299, and 302 team total.

Senior Elise Parel claimed the tournament's individual title after posting an even-par finish, 216 total, with rounds of two-over par, 74, two-under par, 70, and even-par, 72. Parel led the 78-player field in birdies, 11 total, including three in her final round at the 9th, 11th, and 15th holes. This is Parel's third win in a row following recent wins at the 2023 Islander Classic and 2023 UTRGV Invitational, and fourth win on the season. Parel remains the #1 ranked golfer in the Southland Conference.

Sophomore Lou Rousselot earned another top-10 finish, placing 7th individually after posting rounds of five-over par, 77, three-under par, 69, and five-over par,77. Rousselot added three birdies in her final round at the 2nd, 8th, and 12th holes to give her eight for the tournament. This is Rousselot's fourth top-10 of the season, and third top-10 in a row.

Freshman Alejandra Ferrer completed the tournament in a tie for 14th after shooting rounds of one-over par, 73, seven-over par, 79, and four-over par, 76. Ferrer lead the Huskies in par-5 scoring with a 4.83 average. Ferrer has recorded three top-15's in a row, including a 3rd place finish at the UTRGV Invitational and T-7 at the Islander Classic.

Freshman Josalyn Keller carded rounds of five-over par, 77, 11-over par, 83, and five-over par, 77, on her way to a tie for 41st finish. Keller recorded one of four eagles made by the entire tournament field across all three days, with a hole-out eagle at the par-4, 13th hole, during her opening round. Through two starts as a Husky, Keller has a 76.17 scoring average.

Junior Lucia Allub closes out the team lineup firing rounds of 11-over par, 83, nine-over par, 81, and eight-over par, 80. Allub recorded the second of a total of four eagles made the entire tournament with her first HCU career hole in one at the tricky par-3, 17th hole during her second round. Allub finished in a tie for 63rd.

Sophomore Jackie Nguyencompeting as an individual, finished in a tie for 19th after rounds of six-over par, 78, one-over par, 73, and six-over par, 78. Nguyen tied for second in the tournament field in birdies made with 10 total, including two in the final round at the 11th and 16th holes.

Junior Rocio Comparini, also competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 27th individually after rounds of seven-over par, 79, one-over par, 73, and seven-over par, 79. Comparini added two birdies in her final round at the 3rd and 18th holes, bringing her total to six for the tournament.

Senior Aysis Azarcon, closed out the Huskies' individual line up and finished in a tie for 41st after rounds of 11-over par, 83, five-over par, 77, and five-over par, 77. Azarcon made three birdies in her final round including back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th holes.

Sam Houston State won the 2023 HCU Husky Invitational Team Title at 16-over par, 880 team total, over ULM who finished second at 37-over par, with a 901-team total. Tournament host, HCU, finished in third place at 38-over par, recording a 902-team total. HCU's Elise Parel won the individual title at even-par over, with SHSU's Leah Alberto finishing in second, at two-over par, with SHSU's Jennifer Herbst finishing third at three-over par.

HCU will return to action for the ULM Invitational in Monroe, La on Monday, April 3rd and Tuesday, April 4th before preparing for the Southland Conference tournament later that month.
