THIBODAUX, La. – With two games left in the regular season and the HCU men's basketball team currently in sixth place in the Southland Conference standings, the Huskies can secure a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with a win on Saturday against Nicholls in Stopher Gym.

HCU (10-19, 7-9 SLC) and Nicholls (14-14, 9-7 SLC) have had opposite fortunes over the last two games with the Huskies earning a pair of wins and the Colonels taking a pair of losses. HCU defeated Lamar last weekend and on Thursday evening downed visiting McNeese, 85-80. Nicholls, meanwhile, fell at home to Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday, 71-72, before coming up short at New Orleans, 88-82, on Thursday.

The Huskies had five players score in double-figures in the win over McNeese with Maks Klanjscek scoring a team-best 22 points. Zach Iyeyemi added 18 points off the bench while Bonke Maring had 14, Brycen Long scored 13 and Pierce Bazil finished with 11. Sam Hofman matched a career-high with 13 rebounds and Klanjscek also matched a career-best with seven assists.

Nicholls trailed by as many as 19 in the second half at New Orleans before cutting it down to a single-digit game late. Marek Nelson led the Colonels with 20 points while Lance-Amir Paul and Caleb Huffman each scored 14. Nicholls shot 39.1 percent from the floor and just 26.9 percent from three in the loss.

The Huskies and Colonels met in Sharp Gym on Feb. 4 with Nicholls escaping with a 92-91 win. Klanjscek led all players with 24 points in that game and Hofman finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
