LAREDO, TX – HCU concluded the Border Olympics with a 21-over par, 309 team score, finishing in 17
th place with a total of 310-303-309=922 team total.
The Huskies were led by senior
Mason Ghidina who made five birdies in the final round on holes 1, 4, 9, 13, and 17 en route to a five-over par, 77. Ghidina finished in a tie for 24
th at six-over par (76-69-77=222.
Junior
Cooper New fired a final round, 78, with back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 to close out the tournament. New finished in a tie for 65
th place individually after posting rounds of 75-78-78=231 total.
Freshman
Roy Barrera capped off the tournament with a final round, 80, after making two late birdies at the 14
th and 17
th holes. Barrera concluded the tournament in 76
th place after completing rounds of 77-78-80=235 total.
Senior
Ben Caton completed the tournament with final round, 76, with two birdies coming at the 4
th hole and the 17
th hole. Caton found himself in a tie for 77
th place individually after shooting rounds of 82-78-76=236 total.
Freshman
Mason Napier posted a closing round, 78, with a birdie coming on the par 5, 9
th hole. Napier finished in 87
th place after posting rounds of 83-85-78=246 total.
Baylor won the 2023 Border Olympics team championship after posting a final round, 293, and ended the tournament at eight-under par, 856 team total. The University of Houston finished in second place, 15 shots back at seven-over par. Michigan took home 3
rd place at 15-over par. Houston's Santiago De La Fuente won the individual title finishing at four-under par, 212 total. Baylor's Johnny Keefer finished in second place at three-under par.
The Huskies will return to action at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Rice University. The tournament will be played in Houston, Tx at Westwood Golf Club on February 20
th and 21
st.
