SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The HCU men's basketball team continues a three-game road swing on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Convocation Center against the UIW Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. looking to pull even with the hosts in the Southland Conference standings.
The Huskies (7-18, 4-8 SLC) are currently tied for seventh in the league standings and stand just one game behind the Cardinals (11-14, 5-7 SLC). An HCU win would even the season series and pull the two teams even in a tie for sixth.
HCU and UIW met in Houston at Sharp Gym on Jan. 19 with the Cardinals taking an 89-78 win. Senior
Sam Hofman led HCU with 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss while
Andrew King added 17. The Huskies shot 37.9 percent from the floor while the Cardinals shot a blistering 58.2 percent.
Senior
Maks Klanjscek has been on a hot streak for HCU, scoring a career-high 30 points on Thursday in the team's loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In the last three games, he's averaging 23.7 points per game while shooting 52.3 percent (23-of-44) from the field and 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from three.
UIW is led by guard Jonathan Cisse who is scoring 15.5 ppg while shooting 40.8 percent overall, 39.4 percent from three and 86.8 percent from the foul line. Brandon Swaby is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 4.6 rebounds per game. The Cardinals dropped their last game, a 68-59 home loss to Lamar. Cisse led the way with 14 points.
HCU will travel to Beaumont, Texas for the season's first meeting with Lamar on Thursday, Feb. 16, before turning around and again playing the Cardinals at home on Saturday, Feb. 18.
