LAKE CHARLES, La. – HCU returns to action this Saturday after a second Saturday with no game due to Northwestern State's forfeit to take on the McNeese Cowboys in the Huskies' final road game of the 2023 season at Cowboy Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Fans can watch Saturday's game live on ESPN+ and listen in to the voice of the Huskies, Garrett Jones, providing play-by-play on the Husky Sports Network audio stream available at HCUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (5-4, 3-2 SLC) head into the final stretch of the season with one road game and one home game left, aiming for the first winning season in program history. Standing at five wins, this season's team has already matched the most wins in a season in program history while one additional win can secure a winning record.

In the last week, senior LB/EDGE Jalyx Hunt has received invitations to both the East/West Shrine Bowl and the Reese's Senior Bowl and is, to this point, the only FCS player to have received invitations to both. Hunt is currently third in the Southland Conference in both sacks, with five, and tackles for loss, with 7.5. He has 12 sacks in 19 career games at HCU, ranking second in program history, while totaling 123 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Fellow HCU seniors Karl Reynolds and Colby Suits have made their presences felt this season and are moving up the program's all-time lists. Reynolds, who has 37 catches for 504 yards and five touchdowns this season, has made his way up to third in program history with 10 touchdowns receptions in just 19 games at HCU. Additionally, his 66 career receptions and 925 yards both rank fourth. Suits, meanwhile, has already made his way up to fourth in program history with 1,582 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes in just eight games.

Last time out, the Huskies earned a 17-13 home win over Texas A&M-Commerce. Suits threw for 242 yards on 21-of-32 passing with a touchdown while Reynolds hauled in nine catches for 119 yards and a score. Junior safety Isaiah Cash came up with a pair of interceptions, including in the end zone with just 1:57 left on the clock to end an A&M-Commerce drive and preserve the win.

McNeese (1-8, 1-4 SLC) most recently dropped a 38-24 decision on the road to Southeastern. The Cowboys' lone win of the season came via their own forfeit win over Northwestern State. Freshman quarterback Kamden Sixkiller entered the game in the second quarter to make his debut and went 9-of-19 with a touchdown and an interception to help McNeese pull within four, 28-24, before giving up 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The McNeese defense boasts the nation's leading tackler in sophomore linebacker Micah Davey who is averaging 14 tackles per game. Offensively, junior running back D'Angelo Durham leads the Cowboys and ranks third in the conference with 67.3 rushing yards per game. Sophomore wide receiver Jon McCall is tied for second in the SLC with five touchdown receptions.

In addition to being one win away from the program's first winning season, HCU is also after its first win over McNeese. The Huskies are 0-5 all-time vs. the Cowboys.

The Huskies close out the 2023 season at Husky Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 18, with a visit from the UIW Cardinals at 2:00 p.m.
