FRISCO, Texas – HCU senior defender
Kat Lazor was selected first team all-Southland Conference on Tuesday morning while sophomore midfielder
Alexa Huerta and freshman forward
Olivia Rossman were second team honorees, announced by the conference office ahead of tomorrow's opening day at the 2023 Southland Conference Tournament.
A repeat selection, Lazor earns her first team selection after picking up second team honors last season. She finished the season third on the team in minutes played as a central defender, appearing in 15 games and starting 14. Lazor scored a pair of goals for the Huskies in conference play, first on the road at Texas A&M-Commerce before scoring a long-range strike in a win over Northwestern State that made it on the day's SportsCenter Top-10.
Huerta led the Huskies as a sophomore with five goals and three assists for 13 points while spending the second-most minutes on the field among all HCU players. In SLC play, she totaled three goals and two assists. Huerta netted a pair of goals in a 5-0 win over Nicholls to start conference play. Through her first two collegiate seasons, she has seven goals and four assists.
Rossman enjoyed a strong debut season, finishing second on the team with four goals while adding one assist. Her first goal was the game-winner in an early season 2-1 victory over Sam Houston. In conference play, she scored two goals in the final two games of the season, including the game-winner over UIW in a must-win matchup that secured a tournament bid for the Huskies. Her four goals were the most by an HCU freshman since Sabriah Spencer scored nine goals in 2015.
The Huskies open the 2023 SLC Tournament this Wednesday, Nov. 1, afternoon at 4:00 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Commerc in Corpus Christi, Texas at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Complex.
