FRISCO, Texas – HCU junior safety
Isaiah Cash was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by the league office after playing a key role in the Huskies' 17-13 Homecoming win over Texas A&M-Commerce this past Saturday.
Cash, who had recorded just one interception in his previous 26 games, doubled that number on Saturday. His first pick came late in the first quarter, setting the Huskies up for a touchdown drive starting at the A&M-Commerce 44-yard line.
Late in the game, with HCU holding 17-13 advantage and the Lions driving to the HCU 25, Cash hauled in interception number two in the endzone with just 1:57 remaining in the game. The Huskies then ran out the clock for the victory.
In addition to his two interceptions, Cash finished the game with eight tackles.
The Huskies were scheduled to play Northwestern State on the road this coming Saturday, Nov. 4, but that game has been cancelled so HCU's next game will be Saturday, Nov. 11, vs. McNeese in Lake Charles, La.
