CHICAGO, Illinois —- HCU dropped a 3-2 decision to Chicago State at Gwen Brooks College Prep in the final road contest of the regular season Sunday evening. HCU found themselves in a three-goal hole in the first frame and it's late rally fell short.
The Cougars got on the board first when the Huskies were whistled for a handball in the box, and Calwayne Allen poked in the penalty into the bottom right corner for a 1-0 lead.
Chicago State then got goals five minutes apart 10 minutes later. A blast from outside the box by Hilary Odhiambo put the hosts up two goals, and in the 39th minute, Iann Topete cleaned up a scrum in front of goal with a short poke into the net, and the Cougars led 3-0.
HCU would get one of the goals back just a couple of moments before the intermission.
Ricardo Garcia's free kick from the left side found
Aldo Tarantini, whose header glanced off a CSU defender and past the goalkeeper to pull the Huskies to within two.
Twelve minute into the second half, HCU would find the back of the net again.
D'Alessandro Herrera won a ball on the right sideline and hit Garcia, whose then gave a short pass upfield to
Kidus Assefa. A nice through ball from Assefa found
Ryan Okerayi, who deposited his sixth goal of the season into the left side, and the Huskies suddenly found themselves right back in it.
From there, the Huskies would continue to push for the equalizer, but each run was met with solid resistance by Chicago State, who would hold on for the victory.
HCU falls to 4-7-5 overall and 2-3-3 in league play, while Chicago State improves to 4-9-3 and 2-4-2 in the league. The Huskies remain in fifth place, two points back of UIW in fourth and one point ahead of Chicago State and Eastern Illinois, tied in sixth place.
Two home games at Sorrels Field this week will wrap up the regular season for HCU. The Huskies will host second-place Liberty on Thursday night, then get a rematch with Chicago State on Sunday evening.
