VB: Huskies Open Tough Stretch of Five Matches in 10 Days at Sharp Gym

HCU hosts Southeastern in Sharp Gym on Thursday before battling UIW on Saturday in San Antonio

HOUSTON, Texas – The Huskies return to Sharp Gym to host Southland Conference leader, Southeastern, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to San Antonio to clash against UIW on Saturday at 1 p.m.

HCU is 11-5 all-time against the Lady Lions dropping their last three matchups in Hammond. The Huskies dominated the rivalry from 2016-2019 capturing five straight wins with a 15-5 set differential. The Huskies last took down Southeastern in Sharp Gym sweeping the Lady Lions in the first conference matchup of last season. HCU has taken every match against Southeastern in Sharp Gym since 2015.

The Huskies (11-10, 6-3 SLC) are led by Sara Arroyo moving up to 5th in the conference averaging 3.11 kills per set. Audrey Pearce holds the 2nd place ranking in the Southland with an average of 1.16 blocks per set. Grace McLaughlin is dishing out 9.48 assists per set on average, ranking 3rd in the SLC. Kaley Feris continues to lead the Huskies averaging 4.39 digs per set.

Southeastern (18-4, 9-1 SLC) is led by Kailin Newsome ranking second in the conference averaging 3.68 kills per set and leads the Southland with 326 points scored on the season. Gracie Duplechein is averaging 9.75 assists per set while Ansley Tullis averages 3.49 digs per set.

The Huskies will take on UIW on Saturday at the McDermott Center at 1 p.m. HCU is 12-4 all-time against the Cardinals and is 9-1 with a 25-11 set differential since 2019. The Cardinals (11-10, 3-6 SLC) are led by Allison Palmi averaging 2.97 kills per set while Risa Sena averages 2.51 kills per set. Natalie Kimmel is dishing out an average of 5.99 assists per set and Mariela Nieto leads the Cardinals back line averaging 3.30 digs per set.
