HOUSTON – As the Southland Conference slate rolls on, the HCU men's basketball team stands in a tie for fifth place but just one game behind a four-way tie at the top of the standings. The Huskies will face one of those teams, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, on Saturday evening inside Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m.
HCU (6-13, 3-3 SLC) fell at home in conference play for the first time on Thursday, dropping an 89-78 decision to UIW, while TAMUCC (11-8, 4-2 SLC) lost 68-66 at Lamar.

Sam Hofman led the Huskies on Thursday with 18 points and eight rebounds while freshman
Andrew King scored a career-high 17 points to go with six rebounds and six assists. Hofman is currently averaging 7.8 points per game and his 5.3 rebounds per game is second-best on the team. King, meanwhile, ranks eighth among freshmen nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 1.83.
The Islanders head into Saturday's game 11
th in the nation in steals per game, averaging 9.7 per outing. Senior forward Isaac Mushila leads the Islanders and nearly averages a double-double, putting up 14.3 ppg and 9.8 rpg. A pair of senior guards, Trevian Tennyson and Ross Williams, have each knocked down 50 three-pointers this season with Tennyson averaging 13.3 ppg and Williams adding 10.6 ppg.
The Huskies and Islanders met three times last season, splitting games in the regular season with the road team taking the wins. HCU earned a 77-71 win in Corpus Christi while the Islanders won 75-70 in Sharp Gym. TAMUCC then defeated the Huskies in the quarterfinals of the 2022 SLC Tournament en route to the tournament title.

The Huskies return to the road next week, first heading to Natchitoches, La. for the first meeting of the season with Northwestern State on Thursday, Jan. 26, before heading on to Commerce, Texas for a rematch with the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Saturday, Jan. 28.
