MSOC: Huskies Win First Game of the Season

HBU Men's Soccer will play this Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 7:00 p.m. CST

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The HBU men's soccer team obtained its first win of the season against Cal Poly at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Monday night with a final score of 4-2 and three different Huskies scoring goals. 

The game's first goal came in the 16th minute for the Mustangs (0-4-0) with Max Kleinhammes finding the net. However, HBU (1-1-2) quickly bounced back and scored the tying goal three minutes later. Cal Poly answered in short order, scoring a goal less than four minutes after that. The flurry of goals continued with the Huskies again answering in the 28th minute. Another goal in the 35th minute gave the Huskies a 3-2 lead at the half.

Ethan Giwa-McNeil sealed the HBU win with a penalty kick goal in the 59th minute while Alex Aitken made three saves in the final 30 minutes.

D'Alessandro Herrera scored HBU's first goal of the game with an assist from Bryant Farkarlun. The Huskies' second goal came from Kharrel Medza with Aldo Tarantini credited with the assist. The last two goals were both scored by Giwa-McNeil with the 35th minute goal along with the PK.

The Huskies finished the night with 10 shot attempts and six on goal while the host Mustangs had seven of their 13 shot attempts on target. HBU earned five corner kicks to Cal Poly's three. In goal, Aitken finished the game with five saves. Herrera and Giwa-McNeil are now tied for the team lead with two goals on the season.

The Huskies play this Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma against Oral Roberts with first kick at 7:00 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex.
