MANHATTAN,KS – HBU opened the Wildcat Invitational with a 21 over par 309 team score, but quickly recovered in the second round with a even par 288 team score. The Huskies bounced back to finish the first day of the Wildcat Invitational in a tie for 8
th place with Drake and Oakland at 21 over par.
The Huskies were led by junior
Cooper New who fired a first round 70 thanks to an eagle on hole 10, and a late birdie on hole 17. New continued his solid play with a follow up 73 in the second round of the 36-hole day one which positioned him in a tie for 12
th place.
Junior
Oliver Dickman posted a 79 in the first round but rebounded with a second round 70 thanks to back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7. Dickman birdied both par 5's on the back nine putting him in a tie for 31
st heading into the final round. Senior
Mason Ghidina completed his last 13 holes of the opening round in even par to shoot an 80. Ghidina kept his momentum into round two firing a one under par 71 thanks to four birdies in 5 holes (holes 4, 6, 7, 8). Ghidina sits in a tie for 43
rd heading into the final round.
Freshman
Roy Barrera fired a first round 80 in his opening tournament as a Husky but recovered nicely in his second round with a two over par 74 thanks to an even par front nine. Barrera currently sits in a tie for 57
th heading into the final round. Sophomore
Haven McEntire opened the tournament with a first round 80 but rallied back with a 76 in the second round thanks to five birdies (4, 7, 10, 15, 16). McEntire finds himself in a tie for 67
th place going into the final round.
Kansas State leads the way at 25 under par and holds a 21-stroke lead over North Dakota State at four under par. Kansas State's Will Hopkins leads the way through two rounds at eight under par, 136 total and followed closely by his teammates Cooper Shultz at seven under par, and Nicklaus Mason at six under par.
The Huskies will conclude the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday, September 13
th with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
